It takes hundreds of hours for developers or designers to make a website mockup, design it, and code it. UIdeck was started as a UI resource blog in 2016 to support GrayGrids and to spend my time in a meaningful way. But, after analyzing the traffic data and users, we started creating templates and received an amazing response. Then, blogging became less of a focus, and creating templates and UI kits became the primary one. Today, we provide makers with industry or category-specific web pages which makes it easier for them to validate or launch their idea.
More specifically, we are creating landing pages and UI kits for startups and SaaS business. So, startup owners or makers don’t need to worry about design or coding during the idea validation or launch phase. Our ready-to-use templates and UI kits are developed by targeting different types of businesses so they just need to change data and can launch website instantly. Our goal is to bring web projects closer to launch—which is also part of our business slogan.
In short, UIdeck is a hub of templates where you can find various types of landing pages serving different industries, verticals and use cases, from startup to agency to portfolio to online resume… We basically have something for everyone.
The power of focus
We are focused on landing pages and landing pages only. As I have been creating related products since 2013, I know how to make easy-to-use, customizable and high-performancing templates with a practical design—not just fancy stuff with the complicated codebase. Designer, developers or business owners can choose a suitable landing page, change anything based on their needs, and launch it in a matter of minutes.
We use a freemium model. We provide templates with all basic features for free. Users only pay when they need premium features such as footer credit removal, more types of pages, and working forms by paying a small fee. This way they can get the full version.
Also, there is also a membership option which we call “All-Access Pass”, allowing users to get access to all premium products instantly for one year. We are also planning to release some premium-only templates soon.
The product markets itself. I think this principle worked well for UIdeck. Our product got featured on many sites including EnvatoTuts+, OnePageLove, CSSauthor, and many different web design related sites. These are our main traffic sources. We don’t have a specific marketing strategy, but we are mainly focusing our efforts on content marketing, email marketing, and Facebook ads.
From product to business
The UIdeck site is built-with WordPress and hosted on AWS EC2, using a Nginx server with Ubuntu, MySQL and PHP. It’s been more than one year since we started monetizing, and the sales are increasing day by day. The revenue is more or less stable, so as a pet project I am pretty happy with the result. Users are happy, and we recently crossed 12K registered users.
To give you an example of how our users are achieving success using our product, Adam Rogers CEO, software developer at DeskBeers, bought a landing page from UIdeck for his project. He actually published an article on Indie Hackers about his experience: The $9 landing page that sold £2.5k in one week.
“We didn’t need to reinvent the wheel for our landing page, so we looked around and found a nice HTML theme that we could customize to our needs. We picked up one from UIdeck, knocked it around and made it into something we liked well enough. The theme is free for personal use, but to use it commercially cost us $9. Very reasonable.”Adam Rogers, CEO, DeskBeers
We have already set the business philosophy and our business goals. We want to be one of the top hubs for landing pages. We are committed to releasing one or two landing page templates each month for different types of startups, businesses, and categories. And we want to push memberships more than single purchases and keep everything as it is.
