In this article, we will take a closer look at the actual cost and quality of a car paint job at Maaco as well as what factors can cause a change in price.

Factors determining the cost of Maaco paint job

Maaco car paint jobs starting cost is generally around $300 excluding prep work, but  can go up depending on the complexity of the bob. The good things is that the company has a policy of inspecting your car before giving out a quote. This is to ensure that the actual cost of the car paint job is as close to the estimated cost as possible.

Various factors will determine how much Maaco will charge you for a car paint job. Some of these include;

  • Condition of the car

The actual cost of the paint job could be higher than the estimate where unknown damage is found during the process of prepping or painting your car. But in most cases, the price quoted is the price you pay.

Preparing a car for painting is actually the most expensive part of a paint job. This is because it involves a lot of work including sanding to allow the new paint to better bond with the old paint. Peeling or cracking of the existing coat and dents in the car body add to the overall work that goes into prepping and the amount that you end up paying at the end of the paint job.

You have the option of avoiding touch-up work done on your car and instead just have the new coat of paint applied over your existing dents. This will save you some bucks but the final look will seldom look good. Many times, Macco will not offer a warranty on paint jobs applied over any problems contrary to their recommendations for correction.

  • Choice of a paint package

The choice of paint package will determine how much a paint job will cost you. Maaco offers 3 different types of paint packages that you can choose from;

  • Basic service

The basic service is the simplest and least expensive option offered by Maaco. It involves the application of only a single-stage enamel paint with a nice gloss finish to refresh the vehicle’s appearance. The company includes a one-year warranty with this package.

  • Preferred service

Maaco offers this package as a middle-ground option.  It is more expensive but comes with a single layer of urethane-based paint as opposed to enamel paint. This paint makes your car more resistant to scratches thus lasting longer. This package comes with a 3-year warranty.

  • Premium service

This is the most expensive package of the three types, offering a two-stage paint job consisting of a base coat and a clear coat. These are applied separately unlike the combination mix that is used for single-stage paint. They give a glossier finish and last a lot longer. In this tier, the company gives a 5-year warranty.

  • Specialty painting

In specialty painting, Maaco offers you a variety of paints along with the ability to color mix. Special paints that are unique, rare, or custom mixed are expensive. Specialty painting does not include the stock of paint selection that Maaco regularly sells. Paints such as metallic come with a higher price tag as it assures to set your car a cut above the rest.

  • Color change or not

Maaco uses its own brand of paint. As such, there is an extra cost involved where the company changes the original manufacturer’s color. This is because the old paint will need to be completely stripped away before the new one can be applied. The price goes up even more where you also want the hard-to-reach areas of your car such as under the trunk and hood to be painted with the new color

  • Size of the paint job or car

The size of your car or the paint job also impacts the job cost. Where you may need a few touch-ups here and there such as repairing small dents on the body of your car, you need not pay much unless your color is hard to match or special. On the other hand, painting your entire vehicle will be much more expensive. Therefore if you are looking to save money, you have the option of repainting only where you really need to.

Conclusion

Maaco has earned its place in the automotive industry with its excellent work. Their paint jobs generally take 2-3 business days, unless your car requires a lot of bodywork or parts replacements, then it could take a while longer.

Maaco’s paint job is tailored around every individual’s needs. The company offers low-cost paint job services to those on a budget except that the quality of their finishing isn’t comparable. The company also offers its customers the option to be part of their franchise.
